I am Herman, founder of the Barbecue Foodie website and journey. I have been cooking for most of my life and have attended countless classes and seminars on the preparation of food in multiple different cuisines.
Growing up in Netherlands, gourmet generally meant food that was strongly influenced by the French culinary tradition and this is still near and dear to my heart. After moving to the U.S. and while living Texas I developed a passion for traditional barbecue and I love to spend a day working with one of my smokers to prepare pulled pork, smoked sausage and, of course, brisket.
Traditional French cooking as well as barbecue are often presented as complicated and challenging. One of my goals for Barbecue Foodie and our subscribers is to demonstrate that anyone can do this and help you and your friends enjoy great food.
Besides that, I am exploring how to use elements from both traditions and create fusion dishes. I invite you to come with me on this journey! I will be testing ideas, recipes and equipment and will share what I learn as we go. Naturally, any suggestions, comments and questions are always welcome. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
